DREAM IT. CREATE IT.

One of my favorite things to do for clients is design custom furnishings — something that is uniquely theirs. When I can't find the perfect piece, whether it's new or an antique, I get creative. Designing custom furniture lets me add those special touches and intricate details you just can't find in a furniture showroom or in a catalog. Today I’m diving into some of our recent custom creations that have brought both style and function to our client’s homes. If you can dream it, you can create it.

BANQUETTE
Who doesn't love a cozy banquette? Recently, we created a banquette for a client’s breakfast room, offering a clever solution for seating in a bay window. Covered in a ticking fabric with a charming scalloped detail, it adds a feminine touch that perfectly complements this lovely client.
I had this custom ottoman made for me! We often have ottomans made for clients in different shapes (circle, rectangle, square, hexagon), fabric (leather, woven, printed), and details (nail head trim, tufting, pleated skirt, fringe, wooden base). While I was traveling in England last fall, I saw the inspiration for my ottoman and found a master craftsman to make something similar. He built the base and then I had the top upholstered in leather with a nailhead detail. It is perfect and adds a casualness to my living room which I wanted.

SKIRTED TABLE
What is more welcoming than a skirted entry table? It is a classic that will never go out of style. For my clients, I collaborated with a local craftsman to create a custom hexagonal table base on casters so the client can easily move it if needed. I also had a table skirt made using durable indoor/outdoor performance fabric and trim for that extra special detail. It also doubles as a dining table for the times they have a large crowd for dinner.
BED HANGING
A lovely way to dress up a bed is with a custom bed hanging and monogrammed linens. These clients have a large bedroom that needed softening so I had a bed hanging custom-made to envelope the bed. I selected a monogram and border on the coverlet to compliment the wallpaper and fabrics used on the bed hanging. It is truly one of a kind.
I love reading and sharing my favorite books. With summer travel upon us, I wanted to recommend a book I loved last summer, "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett. Set in the cherry orchards of Michigan, I was reminded of this book on my recent trip to Charlevoix, Michigan for a work project. Ann Patchett does a fabulous job portraying the charm and beauty of this area while telling the story of Lara, who reflects on a transformative summer romance, while sheltering with her family during the pandemic. It's a great summer read!
