Powder Rooms

Powder Rooms | November 2020

I have recently completed several powder room refreshes and was reminded of how much fun you can have with these small but special spaces. This month, I thought I would share some of my design tips on how to create the perfect gem of a powder room that will wow your guests and you every time.

Wrap It In Something Bold Don’t underestimate the power of paint and wallpaper to transform a space. Since it's usually a small space, you can take bold design risks and do something you might not be comfortable with in a larger, more prominent area of your home. I really like using wallpaper that has some pattern and texture like the Schumacher grasscloth I used above. If you don’t have the budget for wallpaper, try a bold paint color in a high gloss nish to bring some drama to your little jewel box. I love Fine Paints of Europe Hollandlac Brilliant for the perfect glossy colors. Look at the handsome powder room Windsor Smith created using this paint.

Bring On The Bling One way to immediately update the style of your bathroom is to replace the light fixtures. Every bathroom needs a bit of jewelry to add that extra sparkle to the space. Brass is a favorite right now but don’t worry it won’t look anything like the shiny gold version that we all grew up with. Here are some of my favorites …

Make Your Mirror Matter In a powder room, there is usually not a lot of space for art. The mirror can serve this purpose. Try an antique mirror to mix old and new. Or bring in some sparkle with a brass gilded mirror in an interesting shape.

Keep It Fresh Always keep a lovely scented candle and hand soap for your guests to enjoy. One of my favorite candles is Le Labo Santal. It smells divine. Have a small bud vase like this one from Frances Palmer to keep a sprig of something fresh in the space. It can be as simple as a piece of greenery from your garden or some grocery store flowers.

I hope these tips help you create the perfect jewel box powder room in your home. If you want some help to make it happen, please reach out. Keep making your home your calling card!

Until next time,

- Ann
